Belonging

«Who are we? And where is our place? Where can our identity find its anchor?»

This year, the FFHKP invites you to revisit the history of Hong Kong and reflect on what it means to be Hongkonger, especially in light of today’s new wave of emigration. For over a century, Hong Kong has lived in the rhythm of migration: the arrival of populations from China in the 1940s–1970s, the mass departures of the 1990s, and again in the 2020s. Each era brought its own challenges — to survive, to integrate, to find one’s place. Our special programme Voices of the Diaspora fully embraces this theme. The Carte Blanche of Law Kar and Donna Ong takes us back to old Hong Kong and its colonial-era social tensions. Our Closing Film, Vital Signs, resonates with the current wave of departures, while Fight For Tomorrow explores the disillusion inherited from a once-glorious past. The Way We Talk questions our ability to live alongside communities with disabilities. In Papa, the poignant portrait of a schizophrenic killer expresses anxieties around family ties, society, and the future of the world. Even the preview screenings highlight family conflicts under social conventions. Finally, behind the guise of a lighthearted comedy about a scam, our Opening Film, Love Lies, asks what a genuine relationship is, and where our feelings — and our sense of belonging — may ultimately find an anchor.

We are sorry to inform you that an error slipped into our flyer regarding the screening of Fight For Tomorrow: we mistakenly indicated that November 11 falls on a Sunday, when in fact it is a Tuesday.

The screening of Fight For Tomorrow will therefore take place on Tuesday, November 11, at Cinéma Saint-André des Arts!

Thank you for your kind attention, and a big thank-you to the attentive audience member who pointed out this mistake.

Help us keep Hong Kong stories on Paris screens

香港電影·巴黎延續

Since 2022, the Hong Kong Film Festival in Paris has grown from 6 to 16 films, attracting a large local audience. However, with only 30% of ticket revenue shared with us, we struggle to cover screening rights and equipment costs.

Your support helps keep Hong Kong stories on French screens.

From Hong Kong, rooted in Paris, connected to the world.

The Hong Kong Film Festival of Paris (FFHKP) is the only film festival in France curated by Hongkongers, dedicated to showcasing Hong Kong cinema and culture. Established in 2022, the festival takes place annually in Paris. We aim to introduce the diverse perspectives, artistic energy, and unique storytelling of Hong Kong to European audiences. Each year, we present a carefully curated selection of feature films, documentaries, experimental works, and shorts, along with in-person conversations with filmmakers to foster cross-cultural dialogue. Supported by the City Hall of Paris (Marie de Paris) and various partners, the festival offers a space that is independent, creative, and politically conscious. We believe cinema is not only an art form—but a witness to identity, memory, and historical transformation.

Spotlight:

Emerging Talents – Conversations with Five New Hong Kong Directors

Interview with 5 New Directors: Erica KWOK, Jason YIU, Kingston CHOW, CHOY Kaiu, and YEUNG King-Lun. Discuss their short film creations and how they were created in contemporary Hong Kong.

CUBE is a non-governmental organisation established by a group of Hong Kong people who profoundly love their cinematic culture.Initially, it was an idea that came up during a casual chat, while drinking milk tea - two Hong Kong expatriates talked about to share their love of theater, cinema and other creative art forms with the French public, from a Hong Kong perspective" (and not "to share their love for theatre, cinema and other creative art forms from a Hong Kong perspective with the French public. The idea then became an actual project with the help of professionals from the industry, independent artists and intellectuals. Not only is the name Cube an alternative representation of C³ (an acronym of the name – Association des Créations Culturelles et Cinématographiques de Hong-Kong), but it also underlies an ambition of bringing our audiences to re-experience Hong Kong culture from a stereo-dimensional perspective.
