#Portrait de Hong Kong

Carte blanche à CUBE

On May 15, 2024, in collaboration with the Forum Des Images and inspired by the Chinese concept of 「相濡以沫」 (solidarity), we organized a conference on the history of the Kowloon Walled City and a screening of the film "The Narrow Road" as part of the thematic program on Hong Kong: "Portrait De Hong Kong." During the conference, titled "Echoes of the Hidden City: Unveiling the Enigma of the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong," our President of CUBE and co-chief organizer of the FFHKP, Lok Kan, shared her testimonies on the hidden but united life of the Kowloon Walled City. Following this, with an introduction by the Vice-President of CUBE and co-chief organizer of the FFHKP, we screened "The Narrow Road" by Lam SUM. The story features the protagonist, Chak, who struggles to keep his cleaning business afloat during COVID when he meets Candy, who needs a job, and her little daughter Chu. This film was screened at the 2nd FFHKP and won the Audience Award.

Hong Kong: Échos D’Une Ville Festival

Location: L'Auditorium Seynod
Date: October 2024

The Hong Kong: Échos D’Une Ville Festival was born from the meeting between Lok-Kan CHEUNG, a Hong Kong artist and president of CUBE, and L'Auditorium Seynod during her artistic residency at ESAAA (PAUSE), supported by the Atelier des Artistes en Exil. This collaboration resulted in a unique "Carte Blanche" project.

The festival explored the cultural and historical evolution of Hong Kong, especially the iconic Kowloon district, through three main themes: cinema, exhibition, and theater.

3rd Edition of the Hong Kong Film Festival in Paris (FFHKP)

From November 14 to 19, the 3rd edition of the Hong Kong Film Festival in Paris (FFHKP), themed “Retro/Projection”, took place at the Cinéma Épée de Bois in the 5th arrondissement, with support from the Mairie de Paris. Seven new films were selected for this edition: Where the Wind Blows (Opening Film) In Broad Daylight Back Home Over My Dead Body Fly Me to the Moon A Light Never Goes Out To Be Continued (Closing Film) The FFHKP team introduced new categories for the selected films (such as Landscape Selection and Fantasy Selection), making it easier for the audience to pick their favorite genres. Additionally, the classic cult film BioZombie was featured as part of the retrospective, in collaboration with the French distributor Spectrum. Two short films previously selected in Annecy, RED EGG and 9032024, were also screened before four special sessions to promote Hong Kong short films to Parisian audiences. The FFHKP team also produced six exclusive interview videos with the filmmakers, which were shown after certain screenings, allowing the audience to better understand the ideas and motivations behind their work. During the opening screening, the editor-in-chief of Where the Wind Blows was present, and the post-screening exchange between the audience and the editor was a remarkable highlight of the event. The FFHKP team also enhanced the audience voting system for the selected films, with the results shared with the filmmakers and used as a reference for film selection in the next edition. In summary, feedback for the festival was significantly more positive than in the previous edition, thanks to a more diverse selection, well-organized intermissions and ticketing by the new Cinéma Épée de Bois, the revamped FFHKP website design, the improved film voting system, and increased engagement on social media.
