The film addresses the intense academic pressure in Hong Kong through the story of Cheng Yau-kit (Siuyea LO), a high school teacher forced to confront a childhood trauma linked to his father’s (Ronald CHENG) academic expectations, while trying to save a suicidal student. Nick CHEUK wrote the screenplay in response to the wave of student suicides that struck Hong Kong in 2015, drawing heavily from the tragic experience of a close friend — also a friend of actor Siuyea LO — who took his own life.
